Canada’s first microbrewery, Vancouver’s own Granville Island Brewing, is celebrating 25-years of quality and innovation by injecting a fresh new look to the brand, encompassing packaging, point-of-sale materials, billboards and advertising image. Inspiring photo collages, featuring iconic local imagery showcase the city’s individuality and envied West Coast lifestyle.
“The strategic driver behind the new packaging was Granville Island Brewing’s tagline ‘It’s Good to Be Here’,” says Granville Island Brewing’s general manager Walter Cosman. “It’s more celebratory and insightful of the way Vancouverites live in their city, resonating with how we live here, our lifestyle and quite honestly, the fact that it is good to be here.”
Package designers Publicis Vancouver teamed up with local photographer Lionel Trudel to capture the essence of the West Coast lifestyle. The photographs illustrate some of Vancouverites` favourite pastimes, including walking the sands of English Bay, playing rugby at Brockton Oval and sailing through False Creek.
In developing the new packaging, over 1,000 local beer enthusiasts were shown several different options, the result being artwork created for Vancouverites, and chosen by Vancouverites.
The new look can been seen on all of GIB’s portfolio of beers: Island Lager, English Bay Pale Ale, Cypress Honey Lager, Robsont St. Hefeweizen, Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale, Lions Winter Ale, Gastown Amber Ale, the new Brockton IPA and all point-of-sale materials and billboards.
