Jason Athen is a rising young Vancouver artist who is hosting his first solo art show – with 50% of the proceeds from all paintings sold at the show going to Variety Children’s Charity. Jason Athen’s work is reminiscent of Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali but with a twist. He uses silkscreen and 3-D elements as well as more traditional painting techniques to make revealing statements about pop culture and current events. Whether it’s Iranian women in traditional Islamic garb firing handguns or a collage of guns surrounding an image of Paris Hilton, Jason’s art doesn’t shrink from controversy.
The reason for Jason’s generous donation to Variety? He’s motivated by a difficult childhood, marked by abuse, and a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children. He is currently working with Variety Children’s Charity to make this a reality and will give half the proceeds from all paintings sold at his exhibit to the charity. Enjoy Jason’s dynamic art, full of pop culture icons, on display in Canvas Lounge’s gallery. There will be a DJ spinning and good food and drink.
